Because all run and no play makes Dan a dull boy.

"There must be a guardian angel or some kind of destiny we have, cause we should have died a long time ago the way that we were living in our past"

I know the premise of this blog is a desk bound chubby guy getting back into running shape, but dammit, I do things aside from work and run. Barely.

This weekend Dori and I are heading to the Meadowlands for Bamboozle. Now I know what you are saying. "Dan aren't you a little old to be going to an all day music festival in a parking lot?"

Short answer: Yes.

However, out of fifty bands there are probably 4 that I am pretty excited to see. Weezer, Motion City Soundtrack, Say Anything, The Dear Hunter. Plus, I am sure the whole rest of the bill can't be entirely horrible. It can't all be skinny jeaned, eye make up wearing emo bands and hipster rock right?

And if the rest of the bands turn out to be horrible I am prepared to unleash angry old scenester Dan on the unsuspecting masses. Angry old scenester Dan has been paying his punk rock dues since before you damn kids discovered Barney and the Teletubbies. Angry old scenester Dan has band t shirts older than you damn whippersnappers. Angry old scenester Dan hated that band before you emo hair wearing idiots illegally downloaded their music.

Other things angry old scenester Dan anticipates ranting about.

1 - The price of a bottle of water at this event. Sure they cost $7 back in my day too, but you got double the water.

2 - The number of stages. Back in my day music festivals had maybe two or three stages, and we were thankful.

3 - The Meadowlands? Why the hell isn't this thing being held in Asbury Park anymore?

4 - That the Aquabats are playing on Saturday and I have tickets for Sunday. The world needs more costumed superhero punk rock.

5 - People wearing merch for bands that are on the bill. Seriously? Also band members wearing their own merch.

I am sure there are going to be a dozen other things that really grind my gears. We shall see.

Thanks for listening. In case you haven't heard I am running the NYC Marathon this year as a member of Fred's Team. 1. I know angry old scenester Dan and you don't want to mess with him!! Speaking of the good old days, remember when I single-handedly ended your interview with Karl Alverez of the Descendents with my dumb-ass question at the Stone Pony? Hahaha...

  2. I am going to paraphrase how you single handedly ruined my chances of touring with the descendents.

Kris "so who is the girl that Thank You is about?"

Karl "Dude, that song is about a band"

    Dan "What the hell Kris?"

Karl "well thanks for coming out, i have to go"
